(…and we’re NOT talking about the guys with tool belts)
While every single contributor to the Fan the Flame campaign is responsible for the success of St. James’s Building the Future renewal and expansion project, there are some who have taken on leadership roles to shepherd this important part of our church’s history. We give thanks to God for their tireless efforts to ensure that we are preparing the way to best serve our children, programs and ministries as we answer God’s call to be “Doers of the Word.”

The Building Committee has been responsible for the overall planning and design of the Building the Future project. Currently the Committee meets every two months to review the construction process. A sub-committee of the Building Committee consisting of Chairman Jim Goggins, Brent Winn and Betty Molster meet at the site to review the progress of the work and to review and approve Taylor and Parrish's monthly Application for Payment.

The Interiors Committee works with the architects to select appropriate decorative finishes and furnishings for the East Expansion and Sunday School and Gibson Hall Renovations. We are focused on maintaining a style that is consistent with the historic details of the Fan, while creating updated and attractive facilities. The first floor of the East Expansion will be our most public area and will be more formal. The basement, second and third floors will be colorful, comfortable and practical space for the children’s classrooms and adult meeting rooms. Most recently we have selected carpets, kitchen floor and wall tiles, bathroom tiles, classroom flooring and wood floor finishes. The Interiors Committee meets monthly.

The Kitchen Committee's responsibility is to create a safe, fun and functional kitchen space that not only can accommodate the host of cooking teams at St. James’s, but also has the capacity to accommodate many meals: for wedding receptions, funerals, or other events. The committee was charged with determining scope, workspaces, amenities, appliances, workflow, etc. The committee visited two other churches with newer kitchens to find out what they liked and what they would do differently given a second chance. The committee meets as is needed.
