From earliest times the people of God have expressed in music those feelings that cannot be fully expressed in words. St. James's Music Program seeks to provide a place for everyone to lift their voice to God in song.




St. James's Choirs and Programs


Cherub Choir (Kindergarten-Grade 2)
Rehearses Wednesdays at 4:00-5:00 p.m.
Sings on the second Sunday of the month
at the 9:00 a.m. service.


Children's Choir
(Grades 3-5)
Phaedra Hise & Besty Moss, Choir Mothers
In addition to learning anthems for services, the children learn vocal technique and the fundamentals of music. The choir sings unison anthems for treble voices with emphasis on the hymns of the church. The Children's Choir rehearses on Wednesdays 5-6 P.M. and sings on the 2nd Sunday of the month at 9:00.

Youth Choir (Grades 6-12)
The repertoire includes anthems for unison and two-part trebles, as well as four-part anthems performed with the Parish Choir.  The Youth Choir rehearses Sundays, 12:30-1:45 P.M. and sings on the 3rd Sunday of the month at 11:15.

West Gallery Choir
The West Gallery Choir is for everyone, including those who have never sung in a choir before. In addition to learning anthems for services, the choir focuses on the basics of choral technique and music reading. Repertoire includes music in a variety of styles, including early-American hymns, African-American spirituals, music from non-Western traditions, as well as anthems from the traditional choral repertoire. In addition to singing at 9:00 A.M. services, the choir sings at the service of Advent Lessons and Carols, the 5:00 P.M. service on Christmas Eve, and the evening service on Ash Wednesday.  The West Gallery Choir rehearses Wednesdays 7:00-8:30 P.M. and sings at 9:00 A.M. services.

Parish Choir
The Parish Choir is for experienced singers. Continuing a long tradition of excellence in choral music, the choir presents anthems from the traditional sacred choral repertoire. In addition to singing at 11:15 A.M. services, the choir sings at the midnight service on Christmas Eve, at evening services on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, and at two services on Easter Sunday. In addition, the choir presents two Choral Evensong services each year.  The Parish Choir rehearses Thursdays 7:30-9:30 P.M. and sings at 11:15 A.M. services.

Singing Lessons
Class Singing Lessons (six-week session) are for those who cannot sing and would like to learn, or those who can sing but would like to learn to sing more effectively. Instruction is given on the fundamentals of singing, including breathing, resonance, and diction.  Singing lessons are held Wednesday 6:15-7:00 P.M.; 6-week sessions begin the third week of September and January

Guitar Ensemble
Rehearses on Wednesdays from 8:30 to 9:30 P.M.  The Guitar Ensemble plays for the 9:00 a.m. service. 

Organ Recitals
St. James's Church has been blessed with an organ which is among the premiere instruments in the country. The people of St. James's Church wish to celebrate the richness of God's blessings to our parish by presenting a series of recitals by the world's finest organists for the people of the parish and the community.
