Prevention and Housing Stability Ministry
Area Congregations Together in Service
ACTS is an interfaith ministry that provides case management and emergency financial assistance to people in crisis who are at risk of losing their housing. Volunteers provide office assistance as needed. A special effort is made through our ACTS House to keep an inventory of household supplies to assist with these needs on a temporary basis. ACTS Advocacy Team Ministry
The ACTS Advocacy Team serves to raise awareness and interest in the work of ACTS among St. James’s congregation and to create a template of ideas and activities that can be used by other ACTS partner congregations to educate their members about the important mission of ACTS and to suggest possible funding strategies within the congregations. If you like to think creatively and have a desire to support individuals and families in need, please consider joining the ACTS Advocacy Team.

Volunteers provide one week of overnight shelter and care at the church for homeless men, women and children of CARITAS. Many volunteers are needed to provide help with meals, laundry, worship, and recreation. Shelter week: February 15-22, 2014.
CARITAS Intake provides space in our building for CARITAS guests to wait in the late afternoon for the CARITAS bus to pick them up and provide transportation to their overnight site. Two to three volunteers are needed each evening (generally 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.) to provide hospitality and general oversight of the building. CARITAS staff is responsible for intake and client needs.

Hilliard House Advocacy Team
This team of “doer” volunteers stands ready to assist with occasional special projects or events that enhance the work of Hilliard House, a shelter for women and children. Projects could include such things as providing “playtime” for children while adults are in education sessions, preparing a meal for residents, painting a room, or helping with a special event. The mission of Hilliard House is to assist homeless women and their children in building t families in finding permanent housing, but also to ensure that each family has access to the supportive services necessary to achieve long term housing stability. Join us to embrace women and children!
