Twelve years after Hurricane Katrina, low-income people in New Orleans are still struggling to rebuild their homes, reclaim their jobs, restore their neighborhoods and return to their lives. St. James’s mission teams have been a part of the recovery from the beginning, but there is still more to do. In the fall of 2017, we return to New Orleans under the auspices of Rebuilding Hope in New Orleans (RHINO), a ministry of St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church for work that may include community gardens in the food desert of the Ninth Ward and wetlands reclamation, with the purpose of protecting New Orleans from encroaching salt water and storm surges. To join the team (limited to eight to ten missioners), contact Russell Lawson or Charlie Nance. Mission costs $850, depending on airfare. Deadline for sign up is August 1.
